Hi there :). My name is Izzy, thanks for visiting.
I’m Chinese Indonesian, born in Jakarta and grew up in both the U.S and China. I am a self-taught cook and have been cooking for myself since around 2016. Cooking has become a passion of mine that I am now trying to share with others.
Currently, I live in Montreal working full-time while I work on IzzyPreps on the side. I had come to Montreal to study Economics in university. Cooking was a necessity-born passion fueled by my refusal to eat Kraft dinner and outrage at how expensive Chinese food was compared to back home. Fast forward three years and now food and cooking is basically 80% of what I talk about with people lol.
Aside from cooking, I also love weightlifting! Since exercise and eating pretty much go hand in hand, I became interested in nutrition and sustainable eating. Having a healthy relationship with food is important. A lot of people have problems with their eating habits, whether it be due to nutritional deficiencies that they don’t know how to correct, or due to certain mentalities that cause them to categorize different foods as ‘bad’ or ‘good’.
While I am by no means a professional (yet!), I believe I eat in a way that is sustainable and healthy for myself. Through IzzyPreps I try to share the attitude I have towards food in hopes that it will help you develop a mentality that is healthy for you and your lifestyle.
IzzyPreps started as an Instagram account in 2016 where I shared my go-to recipes with friends that asked me how to cook. I started this blog as an alternative for people that can’t be bothered to scroll through my Instagram feed and look for that one recipe I posted five months ago, so now everything is easily searchable! Woohoo!
I ate primarily Asian cuisine growing up, so naturally that’s what I prefer. However, I also love all other cuisines so this is by no means only an Asian cooking blog! I am a little guilty of the whole measure-free thing in Asian cooking because that’s how I was taught to cook. I try my best to get people used to the idea of non-exact measurements because, really, the amount of soy sauce or lemon juice or garlic that you put in something depends on your personal taste. That being said, I will put measurements in my recipes since so many people ask for them!
I was initially more focused on meal prep, hence the name, as I started the account as a a full-time student with a part-time job. Meal prep was necessary for me as I only had one day of the week to cook. I work full-time now and still meal prep, so a lot of the recipes featured on this blog can easily be made in large quantities by doubling or tripling the amounts. There are some recipes that I make that aren’t just designed for the ease of meal prep though!
Let’s be friends!
